This course will focus on math skills commonly used in real life situations, at home, at work and in the community.  Concepts related to geometry and algebra will be addressed.   This modified curriculum is aligned with the common core state standards in math. Community-based instruction may be included.

The modified curriculum is aligned with the common core state standards in math. This class is used as a bridge to students preparing for Algebra Enrichment or Algebra 1.

Consumer math will focus on real world math applications. Earning money, buying food, shopping, managing a household, buying and maintaining a car, budgeting and traveling. Community-based instruction may be included.

This course will focus on reading and writing skills used for daily living, letters, memos, form completion and summarization of written material.  Students will learn strategies used to generate ideas and plan written work.  This modified curriculum is aligned with the common core state standards in writing. Community-based instruction may be included.

SKP401 - Life Skills English for Seniors

In Life Skills English for Seniors students focus on reading and writing in a modified format. They read contemporary and classic literature while addressing the skills needed to improve reading comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. For the written language portion of the class the students will focus on writing a modified version of the senior research paper and developing necessary vocational writing skills.

NOTE: Designed for students on IEPs who are qualified in the area of reading and/or written expression.
In Language Arts, students focus on reading and writing in a modified format. They read contemporary and classic literature while addressing the skills needed to improve reading comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. Pearson’s Basic English composition curriculum is used in combination with the 5-step writing process to communicate ideas in all four writing modes. Curriculum is aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in the English/Language Arts (ELA).

For students on an IEP needing specialized instruction in study skills and organization. This course is designed to give students the instruction in key skill areas needed to be successful in all core general education classes. Students will also receive instruction on how to maintain a Google Calendar to assist them in organizing, planning, initiating, and completing assignments and other large projects.

Designed to support seniors. Community- based instruction may be included.  Senior Study Skills supports students through their culminating project, as well as addresses the transition (post-secondary education and employment goals) process on their IEP. Students will also have time to work on other assignments from other classes.

This course will focus on building self-esteem, self-advocacy, and social communication skills.  Students will learn about the unstated rules in social situations and strategies to help them achieve social success across a variety of situations.

Employability skills as well as specific job skills are addressed. Students will spend time at a job site in the community anywhere from 1 to 5 days a week.
