ART111 - Foundations in Mixed Media Art

This class is designed to explore a variety of interesting art mediums. The class will start by doing projects that will build simple design and compositional skills using the elements of art. The first part of the class will focus on a variety of traditional drawing and painting mediums. The second part uses things like paper, wood, wire and some clay. The goal is to introduce a variety of materials and encourage the student to mix and combine them into complex and interesting artworks. The course will also include the study of major artists, art movements and styles. Grades are based on participation, daily assignments, and projects.

ART121 - Intermediate/Advanced Mixed Media Art

This is an intermediate art class, designed for students who want to explore traditional and non-traditional art mediums on a deeper level. The class builds upon the art techniques learned in Foundations in Mixed Media Art. Projects will encourage personal expression and artistic experimentation. Students will try out different art styles as they learn about historical and contemporary artists. We will explore a variety of drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpting media. Grades are based on participation, daily assignments, and projects.

ART151 - Yearbook

Members of this class will produce the school yearbook.  Students interested in writing, photography, graphic design, online publishing, or marketing are encouraged to enroll.  They will apply their skills in these fields to create a quality publication.  Leadership is an integral part of this class and students should be able to work as a productive team member.  Grades will be based on class participation, completion of assigned pages and writing.

ART301 - Digital Imaging

In Digital Imaging, students will become fluent in Adobe Photoshop and will create projects simulating great painters, photographers and printmakers. The training and projects in this course include the mastery of camera operations and shooting skills, and the manipulation of photographic images through various assigned and student-generated projects.  The students will be involved in taking pictures for the yearbook. Grades are based on participation, daily assignments and projects.

ART131 - Independent Studies in the Visual Arts

Graduation Credit: Fine Arts

1 Trimester

Prerequisites - Successful completion of at least three previous courses in the visual arts and by teacher permission only.

This course is designed for the skilled and motivated student who wants the opportunity to develop an individualized curriculum in the visual arts. Areas of study may include painting, sculpture, graphic design, digital photography, printmaking and professional portfolio development. Students may elect to use this class to satisfy their fine arts requirement. Grades are based on participation and projects.
