How do parents communicate with their kid’s teacher?

How does my student access assignments if our internet is spotty or we have no internet access?

Click here for Chromebook Setup for Offline Use. You will need to be connected to wi-fi to set up the chromebook in offline mode. Several locations that have free wi-fi in the parking lot are the HMS/CHS campus and White Salmon Library parking lot.

How will parents get notifications?

What are the expectations for distance learning?
Self-Directed Learning (Seesaw/Google Classroom Assignments)

What if kids can’t be on Zoom meetings? (At all or miss one or more due to parent’s schedule)
Please contact your Homeroom/Advisory Teacher.

How much time is expected to be online vs worksheets/reading?
Students will have daily assignments and live online sessions.
Screen time will vary based on age, however, live online lessons will vary from 30-40 minutes/class. Teachers will create lessons that are online, as well as hands-on.

Can parents get more information about the curriculum each grade will cover?
Each grade level and content area are identifying essential standards. A link will be provided in the near future of the essential standards.

What should parents be doing to prepare kids for distance learning?
Begin talking to your student about what a daily schedule will look and how teachers are working to create lessons and creative interaction with their peers.

How will kids be graded?
K-8 Standards Based Grading
9-12 Letter Grades A-F

When is the first day of school? (especially for Grade K which used to start ½ days)
The first day of school for all students K-12 is August 26th.

When will equipment and schedules be available to pick up?
Student schedules will be handed out during Chromebook/Material Pick-up on Aug. 24 & 25 from 10:00 am - 7:00 pm. Pick up location map

What does a typical day/week look like for each grade?
Weekly schedules will be posted by Aug. 24.

What school supplies do kids need?
A school supply list will be provided during Chromebook/Materials pick-up. Supply lists will be posted online in the near future.

How do kids get additional help for reading? (Or other help)
