Mock Trial begins mid-October and runs through February or March. Meetings are held weekly at first, and then biweekly as we get closer to district competition in February. Real judges preside over the trials, and practicing attorneys critique and score student performances. Local district competitions are held and then the top twenty teams compete in the final competition held in Olympia, Washington.
Mock Trial is a great way to learn about the legal system, to have fun "acting" as a lawyer, witness, or bailiff, and to compete with students from other schools. Students gain first-hand knowledge of our judicial system and enhance their skills through hands-on activities in public speaking, research, and critical thinking. At the state level we work with the YMCA https://www.seattleymca.org/programs/youthprograms/youthandgovernment
