In addition to learning the standards associated with this class, which include:  proper file management techniques and computer fundamentals, as well as Microsoft Office 2013 PowerPoint, Word, & Excel applications, students will have opportunities to receive industry certification at no cost!

 Through a partnership between Washington State and Microsoft, Columbia High School is an official Microsoft Imagine Academy site. This means while you’re learning to apply these business programs, you’ll also be able to become certified. These certification exams normally cost between $100-$300!

 The Microsoft Imagine Academy provides students with the future ready technology skills they need to be successful in college and a career—skills that enable them to collaborate, communicate, and be critical thinkers, innovators, problem solvers and citizens of a global economy.

  • Introduce MicroType Program--After creating account, edit spacing preferences and take 1st timing assessment.
  • Then choose either keyboard review or practice option
  • I will copy the files you'll need for PowerPoint and Word while you practice your keyboarding
  • Create folders for Computer Apps
  • Overview of PowerPoint--Open the PowerPoint program and in the search bar type "Welcome to PowerPoint (Take a Tour) presentation and review independently to become familiar with some of the PowerPoint features.
  • Next we will open our PDF textbooks and discuss layout and uses. Scroll to page 16 where we will begin.
